CCD Registration

CCD registration is now open for new students. Registration in St Cornelius Parish is required for students attending our CCD Program. A Baptismal certificate is necessary to register. You may register during CCD classes on Tuesday from 4:45 to 6 pm; on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:15 pm; and on Thursday from 4:45 to 6:00 pm at the School. There is no registration at school during the day.

Parents of children entering First Grade in September:

We are looking forward to welcoming your child to CCD. Registration is open to all families who are registered members of St. Cornelius Church (you are registered if you are receiving envelopes each month.) A Baptismal certificate must be presented at the time of registration for CCD. The deadline to register is May 15, 2011. After that date, the registration fee doubles.

Safe Environment Lesson

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia provides a Safe Environment lesson for Parish Religious Education Program catechists and mandates that this lesson be taught during one session of the instructional year. The Safe Environment lessons are posted for your review at www.archphila.org/catechetical/resources/resources.htm. Scroll down to Safe Environment and click on Lessons. Then click on the grade that your child has in CCD and review the entire lesson.

If a parent or guardian chooses not to have his/her child(ren) present during the Safe Environment session, a dated, signed written request must be provided to the CCD Program by the parent or guardian. You may print out and sign this form if you choose not to have your child present. Return the form to your child’s catechist (CCD teacher) as soon as possible.

The Safe Environment lesson is intended to supplement the conversations that you are having with your child(ren) about their personal safety. It is recommended that parents who choose not to have their child present during the Safe Environment instruction, review the lesson with your child(ren) at home.

For information, call Director of Religious Education Mary Rusek at (484) 840-9250. Please use this number for all CCD matters instead of the Parish Life Center. Year of the Mass

This is what we will share with your children this week about the power and beauty of the Mass:

The Psalm is a song of praise to God, and Jesus would have been familiar with the Psalms in Jewish liturgy. Again we see the connection between the Old and the New Testament. There are 150 Psalms and they are a significant part of the public prayer, or Liturgy, of the Church. The cantor sings the verses of the Psalm and indicates when the congregation is to sing the antiphon that begins and ends the psalm and is repeated after each verse. We listen to the message being sung by the cantor as our hearts love and praise God. We demonstrate our love and praise by singing the antiphon.

Safe Environment Program

The parish elementary schools, CCD/prep programs, schools of special education and secondary schools will provide ongoing education to the students under their care around the issues of respect for one's self and body as well as assisting our children in realizing what constitutes the many aspects of a safe environment are. Parents/guardians will be given insights into these instructional programs as we work together to educate the whole child.
